On a lovely warm May evening we welcomed Andy from Artizan International who gave us an insight into their inspiring work they do at home and abroad. They are involved in charity
work in Ecuador, Peru and Tanzania, as well as here in our home town of Harrogate.
So their training programme was developed abroad, teaching the disabled skills to support
themselves, their families and feel valued. The training included making paper and jewelry
initially, with moves to introduce new craftwork ideas in the future. Their aim was to change
attitudes toward disability, fight poverty and stop the disabled being banished from their
homes and families. We heard some really powerful and moving stories of what they have witnessed along their journeys, with a message of hope in everyone!
Closer to home you can visit the Artizan Café in the town centre and enjoy a relaxing drink
and a tasty treat. They also have a gift shop which gives people the opportunity to purchase
some of the amazing handmade crafts or join in their creative space. Altogether a very
interesting and informative evening, with a very well attended audience.
On arrival everyone was invited to enjoy a refreshing tea, coffee or cold drink and yummy
brownies homemade by Shirley. WI members also proceeded to vote on this years
resolution. The return of the plant swap once again proved very popular and successful.
Happy gardening!
Now prepare yourselves for the June meeting ladies by bring along a hankie, to join in an
entertaining evening of Gothic Morris Dancing. Everyone is welcome, so don’t miss out, come and enjoy the fun!
