Opening up the windows of an advent calendar and counting down the days to Christmas is, for many children (and quite a lot of adults), hugely exciting.
However, with so many similar bland calendars on the market, sometimes we just want to make it a bit special.
So, at our November meeting, we decided to learn to make our own advent calendars. With help from crafty committee members Felicity and Jane, we used paper to create simple envelopes. Everyone had a pack which also contained numbers for each envelope, along with ribbons to create a loop and a piece of twine to string them all up.
With our advent calendars complete, we took them home to fill with sweets, small toys, or even pieces of paper containing promises, inspiring quotes or other messages for our loved ones. That’s definitely not something you can buy in a shop!
Our next meeting will be carol singing, when we’ll be getting in the festive spirit with help from Rhiannon Gayle of Rock Up and Sing!. As ever, we expect it to be a busy night, so we’ll have limited number of guest places available for £5 each (all members are very welcome to attend free!). Please get in touch if you’d like to join us as a guest.
