For our March meeting we were joined by Jackie Depelle, an enthusiastic family history tutor and lecturer who also runs her own genealogy event company. Jackie talked us through the process of tracing our family tree working from the known to the unknown.
She explained that the best places to find evidence are;
Certificates; birth, marriage and death
Census enumerators book
Parish registers; baptisms, marriages and burials
Jackie has a real love for family history and talked about the thrill of the chase and then the satisfaction when she uncovers another clue. She urges anyone who is interested to just have a go! Get a piece of paper and start drawing out your family tree, find evidence and speak to your family to fill out all you can. You can also take a beginners’ course to help build your skills, Jackie is running a 3-week beginners’ course that starts in April.
